Both the Leadership Development Centre and Recreation Block in the TCS, Thiruvananthapuram campus are set amidst landscaping that is primarily vernacular, with a mix of local varieties of plants and numerous coconut palms that provide natural shade.
The brief for the Leadership Development Centre indicated that senior management and faculty members would spend long periods of time on campus. With this in mind, each of the 50 rooms makes special provision for family members to visit or stay. The roofs are designed to keep the non air-conditioned spaces cool with deep overhangs and layered forms, which aid a Venturi effect. Building materials used include slate, brick and lime plaster.
